There are three young heroes: a brainy girl (Annabeth/Hermione), a funny screw-up type (Grover/Ron), and a somewhat troubled but very brave lead (Harry/Percy).Ģ. When I was about halfway through this book, I started making a list of its similarities to Harry Potter. Just one thing though, I'm kind of pissed that they didn't have cabins in the movie. I loved the book, it was exciting, fast- paced and humorous. And I'm expecting something to develop between her and Percy, if you know what I mean. Especially Annabeth, who looks like Cinderella in Percy's words (am I right? I don't have the book on me, sorry. In short, the guy's the full package.Īnother thing I loved were the other characters. You have to give a guy who make you laugh some credit. He's super loyal to his friends and family, is brave and has the looks (this is the part when you look at the gif of Logan Lerman again D). What can I say? The guy has amazing underwater powers, is kick- ass and is a demigod. If only they were like that in the camps I've been to. The cabins would have to be my favourite feature of the camp, though. I could imagine everything vividly and I like to think that I know the camp from back to front. RR seriously out did himself with writing the camp. Well, it sure seemed better than the budget summer camps I've been to. I've always taken an interest in Greek Mythology and I thought Rick Riordan's take on it was very unique, and unlike anything I've read before. Because without his unfreakingbelieveable hotness, I wouldn't have watched the movie, and I would've never read the awesomeness of The Lightning Thief. What did I tell you? (I do imagine that you probably won't read the rest of the review anf just stare at this gif instead, but that's no reason not to like my review! :D)īut, I really have to thank Logan. But I'm even more ashamed that I watched the movie only to experience the hotness that is Logan Lerman.īut, come on! Someone tell me that this, is not hot: And it might just encourage young viewers to check out some literature about the ancient gods and what they represented.I'm slightly ashamed to say that I watched the movie before I read the book. If you want to be transported from the realities of life for two hours, this movie is a great vehicle to do just that. Jackson as Percy’s protector Grover, Uma Thurman as Medusa and Pierce Brosnan as Chiron in addition to Catherine Keener as Percy’s mother, Sally Jackson and finally Daddario as Annabeth. It is technically outstanding and features wonderful performances from Lerman, Brandon T. We gladly award our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal to this film for ages twelve plus. Percy’s quest leads him to learn who it was who stole Zeus’ lightning bolt. With its coming-of-age story and good taking on evil with great passion, the themes in the movie are to be commended. This film features faithful friends to young Percy, including one he romantically likes, namely Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario). The premise of the story is that Zeus (Sean Bean) is searching for the one who has stolen lightning from him and declares there will be war if it is not returned by a certain time. Granted, the film might be a bit too intense for some viewers, which is why we are listing the violence content in the content list below. In fact, the head of this evil character, a female goddess, is used to help the good guys out when they get in a jam. Even as a main character beheads another character, the blade is seen and the resultant head after the slice but there is no blood and due to a fanciful hair-do, the scene is not frightening. There is a lot of fantasy type violence in the movie but with surprisingly and refreshingly very little blood. When his mother is captured, he doggedly goes all the way to the underworld to do what he must to free her. The lead character, Percy Jackson, is played by a charming young actor named Logan Lerman who brings determination, grit and loyalty to the role. Some of the sword fighting includes training by those who plan to defend what is right and moral. We see great battles and a character using the mythological flying shoes. The film features some of the best special effects, i.e. Yet as it briskly moves ahead on the big screen there is a lot to like and enjoy. This movie has a lot of battle scenes and sword fights in it in addition to fire-breathing creatures.
